UK national insignias - aircraft |
The British national insignia was placed upon the top and bottom of both wings and both sides of the fuselage. A red, white, and blue, stripe was painted on the tail fin leading with the red.

Underside - Wings:
As show on the left, the general aircraft insignia in 1939, was concentric circles of blue, white, and red, and was placed on the underside of the wings of aircraft painted in camouflage. Upon commencement of the war with Japan, aircraft in the Far East had the central disc changed to white or a light blue.

Topside of wings: The insignia shown on the left was placed on the top of the wings of aircraft painted in camouflage. Upon commencement of the war with Japan, aircraft in the Far East had the central red disc changed to white or a light blue.

Fuselage: The insignia on the left was placed on the fuselage of aircraft painted in camouflage. Upon commencement of the war with Japan, aircraft in the Far East had the central red disc changed to white or a light blue..

Later in the war: The placement of the various insignias remained the same but the yellow and white rings were substantially narrowed later in the war.

Tail: The tail fin insignia on the left was used until 1942. At that time the white stripe in the tail fin marking was reduced in sized,the red and blue stripes were correspondingly increased.
